Resistor

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element.
The current through a resistor is in direct proportion to the voltage across the resistor's terminals. This relationship is represented by Ohm's law:

I=V/R

where I= Current through resistor
         V= Voltage across resistor
R=Resistance of resistor

As you can see on resistor we can see some colour strips.These colour strips are to find out the value of the resistance of the resistor. Below diagram will show you the table for colour coding.

Now there are two types of colour coding.Some resistors have  4 colour bands while others have 5. For a 5 colour band resistors. Let's say 5 colour bands are red, orange, violet, orange and brown. Then see the first three band tables. For red the value is 2,for orange it is 3 and for violet it is 7. So we get a number 237,right?.Now see the value of fourth band in multiplier table, it is 1k ohm. Now multiply the value 237 by 1k ohm. We get the answer as 237 ohm. Now the 5th band is for tolerance. See the value of the 5th band it is +-1%. This value shows that the accurate value of the resistor can be differ by 1% of 237. Similarly you can try for 4 colour band.For that first two bands gives you value which we get 237 in case of 5 colour band. 3rd band is the multiplier while 4th band indicates the tolerance.
